Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is much like an electronic scavenger hunt game through the Magic Kingdom. It is a lot of fun and can be a great activity to do while wait times are high…or another way to explore the park and meet people from all over. You go around from place to place using special spell cards to defeat 9 villains. These spell cards have also become collector items, so guests trade them and share them to get complete sets.
Important Note:
Unfortunately, Disney closed the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom game on January 24, 2021. We hope they will bring a new type of game to Magic Kingdom for us to enjoy.
You start the game by visiting either the Firehouse to the left as you enter Magic Kingdom, or behind the Christmas store near Liberty Square in Magic Kingdom. There, you will get a pack of 5 spell cards and training for how the game is played. Then you are off.
Note:
You can get a pack of 5 spell cards each day, and when you defeat all 9 villains in the game. If you have multiple people going to the park, each ticket holder can get a set of 5 spell cards each day, which can help one or two of your group to build complete sets of cards. Each of you can have separate game), or all can play on one game so you go around together.
Merlin recruits you as an apprentice sorcerer and sends you to several locations in each of four park areas (Main Street, Fantasyland, Liberty Square/Frontierland, and Adventureland). After you visit these special areas, watch the videos, and cast spells with your cards, you will defeat one of the villains in that area. As you learn the secrets of the game, you will need fewer attempts to defeat a villian. Then, you will be sent to another part of the park to defeat a villain there. You can take breaks whenever you like, and your game is saved from one park visit to another.
Currently, there are 70 cards to collect (plus party cards). 1-60 are available for free in the random packs you can get at the park each day. 61-70 (lightning bolt cards) are currently only available in Booster Packs that you purchase. One of these special cards is in each random Booster Pack, and these packs sell for about $14 each, when they are available at the park or Disney Springs. There are also special cards for the Halloween and Christmas parties held each year.
To trade your duplicate cards with others, we suggest going to Tortuga in Adventureland. Other players often gather there to trade cards. Remember that there are different types of cards, some more rare than others, so be careful not to trade a Star or Lightning bolt card unless you get the same type of card in return. The card types (indicated by a symbol in the bottom left corner) are:
- Lightning bolt (rare – one in each purchased Booster Pack)
- Party card (rare – one given during each party; some given for free after parties are over)
- Star (next rarest – one in each pack distributed in the park)
- Moon (next – one or two in each pack distributed in the park)
- Planet (most common – two or three in each pack distributed in the park)
So, give it a try and see what you think. These interactive adventures, like the Pirate scavenger hunt in Adventureland and the Phineas and Ferb adventure in Epcot, give you a new way to explore the park. Like trading pins, it also gives you a Disney momento to collect and a way to meet new people and have fun on vacation.
